🕉️ Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Complete Story)

This sacred story of Vijaya Ekadashi was narrated by Lord Brahma to Devarshi Narada.
During the Treta Yuga, when Lord Shri Rama reached the seashore with the Vanara (monkey) army to attack Ravana’s Lanka, a great challenge stood before them—
how to cross the vast and endless ocean.
Lord Rama asked Lakshman for a solution. Lakshman replied,
“O Lord, you are all-knowing, yet if you wish to hear, there is a short distance from here the hermitage of the great sage Bakadalbhya, who is highly learned and wise. He will surely know the answer.”
Lord Rama, along with Lakshman, went to the sage’s ashram, bowed respectfully, and shared His concern.
Sage Bakadalbhya said:
“O Rama! Observe the Vijaya Ekadashi fast, which falls on the Krishna Paksha of the month of Phalguna, along with your entire army, following proper rituals.
By the power of this fast, you will not only cross the ocean but will also gain victory over Ravana.”
The sage then explained the method of observing the fast:
On Dashami (the day before Ekadashi), establish a sacred pot (Kalash) and place an idol of Lord Vishnu upon it.
On Ekadashi morning, after bathing, worship the Kalash again with sandalwood paste, flowers, incense, and lamps.
Observe a complete fast throughout the day and stay awake all night, meditating upon Lord Vishnu.
On Dwadashi morning, perform the final worship, then donate the Kalash along with grains and other offerings to a Brahmin, and only then break the fast.
Following the sage’s instructions, Lord Rama, along with Lakshman and the Vanara army, observed the Vijaya Ekadashi fast with full devotion and proper rites.
By the spiritual power of this vrat, they successfully crossed the ocean and ultimately achieved victory over Lanka and Ravana.
